Smile with confidence with Orthodontics | Orthodontics in Grande Prairie, Alberta
At Boisson Dental Group, we’ve treated patients of all ages with orthodontics. It is best to bring your child in for their first orthodontic visit before age seven; however, we can successfully treat children, adults and teenagers alike with orthodontics.
Orthodontics do much more than just enhance the appearance of the teeth and mouth. Even if you or your child do not appear to have misaligned teeth, even a small misalignment issue can contribute to other issues over time such as TMJ and sleep apnea.
Braces are one of the most common orthodontic treatments for adults and children. With braces, small metal brackets are cemented on the teeth and attached with a wire, which will gradually shift the teeth into the desired position. Treatment with braces can take from six months to a year.
With braces, certain foods may need to be avoided during treatment. You will need to be instructed on how to brush and floss with braces on to ensure that cavities do not form. Some patients may find traditional metal bracket braces to be too restrictive, or want a more discreet method of treating the misalignment. The Invisalign System works much the same way that braces do, but it utilizes a series of clear plastic trays to shift the teeth rather than metal wires and brackets. These clear plastic trays are removable, so they do not interfere with activities such as eating and speaking. Overall, Invisalign and braces are comparable in price, so the method the patient chooses should depend upon what the patient is comfortable with and what fits best into their lifestyle. Orthodontic treatments can take anywhere between 6 and 18 months to complete.
After the orthodontic treatment is complete, retainers will be necessary to preserve the alignment of the teeth achieved by the orthodontics.
